1. What we are aiming for
We want everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard rather than a mouse, magnification, or a phone held one-handed in poor light on a job.
We have built it to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA, which is the standard UK government guidance points at. No private business is certified against it and we are not claiming to be. We are telling you what we aimed for, what we checked, and what we know is not right yet, because that is more use to you than a badge.
2. What that means in practice
- Text you can read. Every piece of text on the site meets the AA contrast minimum against the colour behind it, including the small labels and the orange accents.
- Keyboard only. Every link, button, menu and form field can be reached and operated with the Tab key, in a sensible order, with a clearly visible outline showing where you are. There is a "skip to content" link at the very start of every page.
- Screen readers. Headings run in order, there is one main heading per page, and the header, main content and footer are marked as landmarks so you can jump straight to them. Every photograph has a description, and the decorative shapes are hidden from the reading order rather than read out as noise.
- The enquiry form. Every field has a label properly joined to it, so a screen reader announces what is being asked for, and errors are described in words rather than by turning something red.
- Zoom and small screens. The site works at 200% zoom and at 320 pixels wide without anything being cut off and without having to scroll sideways.
- Movement. If your device is set to reduce motion, the hover and scroll effects are switched off. Nothing flashes, nothing autoplays and there is no video or audio.
- Nothing loads from anywhere else. There is no embedded map, chat widget or social feed, so nothing on the page can break because a third-party script did not load or was blocked.
3. How it was tested
Before the site went live we checked it by hand rather than only with a tool:
- Every text and background colour pair measured against the AA thresholds.
- A keyboard-only walk of the whole site: home, services, about, contact, submitting the enquiry form, and opening and closing the mobile menu.
- Every page at 320 pixels wide and at 200% zoom.
- Heading order, landmarks, image descriptions and form labels reviewed page by page.
- An automated check across every page to catch what a manual pass misses.
What was found and what was changed is recorded in the site's own documentation, and it is re-checked whenever a page changes.
4. What we know is not perfect
- We have not tested with every screen reader. The site is built to the standards those tools rely on, but we have not sat down with each one in turn. If something does not work with yours, please tell us, because that is the fastest way for us to fix it.
- The accreditation marks are drawn rather than photographed. Each one has a text description, so it is announced properly, but they will not be recognised as the familiar logos by anyone using image recognition.
- Customer reviews are shown as quotations. They are reproduced as text and attributed, and the star ratings have a text equivalent, but the full set lives on our Google profile, which is not a page we control or can fix.
- Long tables on these legal pages scroll sideways on a narrow phone. That is deliberate: it keeps the page itself from scrolling sideways, which is worse. If a table is awkward to read, ask us and we will send you the same information as plain text.
5. Getting the same service another way
You never have to use this website to deal with us. If any part of it does not work for you:
- Call Steve on 07714 039124. We will take the details, talk the job through and book it in over the phone. Nothing is stored on your device by doing so and it takes about the same time as the form.
- Email info@twogangelectrical.co.uk and we will reply in writing.
- Text or WhatsApp the same number if that is easier.
- If you would like a quote, a certificate or an inspection report in a different format, such as large print or plain text rather than a PDF, ask and we will send it that way.
- If you need us to speak to a family member, a carer or a support worker instead, tell us and we will.
6. Telling us about a problem
If you find something on this site you cannot use, we want to know. Email info@twogangelectrical.co.uk or call 07714 039124, and tell us the page and what went wrong. We will reply within 5 working days, tell you what we can do about it and by when, and in the meantime make sure you get whatever you needed another way.
7. If you are not satisfied
Under the Equality Act 2010 a business providing a service has to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and a website is a service. If you think we have not, tell us first so we can put it right. If we do not, the Equality Advisory and Support Service can help: equalityadvisoryservice.com, 0808 800 0082.
